The Inner Circle

Ho ho ho and happy holidays!  I apologize for the crickets during these past few weeks, but I’m back in front of a laptop and have some really good books to share in the coming weeks.  🙂

The novel that I finished up yesterday was The Inner Circle by Brad Meltzer, who I’ve never previously read.  He’s a New York Times bestselling author, so I didn’t exactly go out on a limb, and he didn’t disappoint.

The main character in this book is Beecher White, who works in the National Archives in Washington, DC. He’s recently been dumped by his fiance’, so he’s understandably excited when his first childhood love, Clementine, reenters his life out of the blue.  In an attempt to impress her, he shows her a section of the Archives where they shouldn’t be, and that’s when the sh*t hits the fan.  They find a two-hundred-year-old dictionary that belonged to George Washington, and it appears that someone is using the book to pass messages to the current President of the United States.  Whether those messages are for good or for evil will be for you to figure out…

Oh, and by the way, Clementine’s father currently resides in an mental institution for trying to assassinate a previous President.  So that’s a wee bit of a complication as well.  🙂

There are tons of twists and turns in this book, and the historical components are fascinating.  What I really liked is that not everything was PERFECT in the end ~ keep reading, I won’t ruin it for you ~ Meltzer resolved everything, but there’s just a loose end or two that have me wondering.  So, of course, I’m going to see if I can find his next novel to get my curiosity satisfied.  I guess that’s the sign of a good author.

I hope that you like this book as much as I did.  Have a great week, happy reading, and a safe and healthy 2012 to you all.  Cheers!
